I don’t think we’ve done a book review yet. But after about 2 chapters into this one, I thought we definitely need to do a “The Bathroom Key” book review. This is the first book I’ve come across that really went straight to my heart.
You know immediately that the author is in tune with what we’re experiencing.
From the opening story of the young lady at her 10th High School reunion I was sucked in. She’s out on the dance floor and she feels a little trickle into her pad, then a couple more. Agony. She goes to the bathroom to change her pad and rushes back out to the dance floor. And then just a short time later she finds that her pad is completely soaked. She doesn’t have another and is forced to stand the rest of the evening not dancing, or laughing. . . Just feeling embarrassed and insecure.
That story was hard to read. You just want to hug her.
An Instruction Tool
The Bathroom Key is just that. It’s a combination of love and instruction. There are many stories that will touch your heart, but it’s also a guide book to becoming continent again. Because as we teach here. . . urinary incontinence is not a disease. For the most part, it’s just weakened muscles.
The authors go far beyond just teaching kegel exercises however. You can tell by their approach that they also understand the physical therapy elements of recovery. Kegels alone are great, but The Bathroom Key teaches how to assess your progress, change what you’re doing based on the assessment, and re-train the bladder.
And she includes action plans for the different kinds of incontinence and pelvic floor problems. Step-by-step, day-by-day plans to recover broken down into small easy chunks.
Reader Comments
Reading through the comments I was surprised and somewhat not surprised by the comments from the readers. Since we tend to keep these issues to ourselves and our very closest friends, I thought it was good testimony how many women bought multiple copies to give to their friends. Gotta love the love.
Part of the allure of the book is the easy reading style. Conversational language, step-by-step action plans. Great illustrations when needed. What’s really interesting is that The Bathroom Key is still a serious medical book. You’ll learn a ton about your body in this and you’ll enjoy it every step of the way.
Please don’t stop at “The Bathroom Key” Book Review, get the book and enjoy it for yourself.
